![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It burns a great deal of its slim 99-minute running time as a proto- Conjuring flick, with characters wandering dark corridors while things LOUDLY bump in the night, until a climax arrives that promises both increased action and sound effects but little else. Troy Nixey directs this passable remake of the stellar 1973 TV movie of the same name (available to rent on Google Play and YouTube, and well worth it), about a young girl (Bailee Madison) who travels to Rhode Island to live with her estranged father ( Guy Pearce, on his way to cash the check) and his new girlfriend ( Katie Holmes, nicely understated here) in the dank mansion they unknowingly share with light-averse gremlins.ĭon't Be Afraid of the Dark isn't so much a poor film as it is an incredibly standard one.
